*HJU alumnae save ¥100,000 on the entrance fee and ¥55,000 on the facilities fee per semester.

Additional Expenses

In addition to those expenses listed above, students are supposed to be prepared to pay for additional living expenses including:

  • Housing fees (private student apartments can run from ¥30,000-50,000)
  • National Health Insurance (approx. ¥25,000 yearly)
  • Textbooks (approx. ¥10,000 or more, per semester)

Financial Aid and Scholarships

HJU provides scholarships for international students. Financial assistance can reduce their financial burden and make it possible for them to study in Japan. Many international students may also be eligible for various types of external scholarships from local governments, local businesses and foundations.

Full-time Students (Non - GSE)

Scholarships for International Students

After international students with student visa (ryugaku visa) enter HJU, they will get a refund of an amount equivalent to the entrance fee (¥250,000) and the facilities expenses (¥280,000) as scholarships. From the second year onward they will receive an amount equivalent to 30-50 percent of the tuition fee according to their academic performance.

Additional Tuition Reduction for International Students

There may be additional support available for international students that do not receive financial assistance from their home-country. Students enrolled in regular undergraduate (non-GSE) courses may be eligible for a waiver of 30 to 50 percent of annual tuition.

Exchange Students

Tuition and Facilities Fee Waiver

Exchange students are exempt from all the school expenses except for text books. Waivers are based on agreements between partner universities and HJU.

Assistance with Living Expenses

HJU offers accommodation to exchange students, excluding fees of electricity and water. International students are also eligible for scholarships of ¥30,000 per month as financial support for living expenses.
